Teach our people to rely on your strength and to accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens, that they may elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for the well-being of our society; that we may serve you faithfully in our generation and honor your holy Name. For yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Amen.
My friends, soon Election Day will be here. Please vote and may God guide you to prayerfully make a decision that augers best for our nation. I pray that whatever the outcome we find a way to move forward as God’s children.
On November 2nd our newly-elected Presiding Bishop will take up the mantle as the 28th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. Please pray for him and his family. We also thank God for former Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and his family. He served us well and we pray he enjoys a healthy and productive retirement.
Our two recent Fundraising events were quite successful: the 20th occasion of our George E. Councell Memorial Golf Outing & Pickleball Challenge, and our 17th African Festival (suspended 2020-2023 during and after COVID-19) which returned with great gusto! Thank you to the respective Committees, who skillfully and faithfully made these events not just hugely successful but a tremendous amount of fun.
In the days ahead I suspect we will have much to consider, not least of which will be Cathedral stewardship. Thank you to our Seminarian, Angela DiJoseph who will be our guest preacher on November 10th at our 10am Worship for New Consecration Sunday.
One more very important offering I recommend to your consideration is a presentation by the Torch Club on November 9th from 6-8pm, in Trinity Cathedral’s Synod Hall: a dinner and conversation on the book ‘We Refuse To be Silent’. Angela P. Dodson, Editor brings together the voices of thirty five accomplished women writers on the topic of violence and injustice against black men, as they navigate a world that stereotypes and targets them. Editor Angela P. Dodson will be present along with Michael Days. A donation of $30 is requested for dinner.
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Faithfully,
The Very Reverend Rene R. John
Dean
