Parish Life Commission
The Parish Life Commission is the group that plans parish social events, such as the annual dance, the newcomers’ welcoming reception, and brunches for our annual meetings, etc. It’s also responsible for arranging for Sunday hospitality hours, and other receptions honoring individuals and diocesan occasions.
Each year, our parish dance is a fun opportunity to enjoy fellowship, food, and music while raising funds to support our Sunday hospitality hours and food service for various events hosted by the cathedral. Our dance themes have included Mardi Gras, Spring Fling, a ’70’s Disco, and Cinco de Mayo, complete with themed decorations, dancing, and even costumes!
Our Sunday hospitality hours are a group effort and a labor of love, to welcome returning parishioners and guests each Sunday, and after special worship services. Our hospitality co-chairs maintain a schedule of regular “brunch” type foods that are staples of our menu each Sunday, which are generously donated by parishioners. Special foods are requested or ordered as needed, for larger receptions such as annual meetings, etc.
While the Commission has regular members who plan all of our events, we do not meet monthly – just when an event needs to be planned. All our events depend on the help of non-commission parishioners to make them a success. So here’s a ministry you could work with that would not require you to “join,” make a long-term commitment, or go to lots of meetings. Just try us out: come work with us on one event, and we promise fun and the satisfaction of bringing our parish family together for a good time. Who knows, you may just want to do it again the next time!
